A good list can still arrive at the wrong time
Firmographic fit is necessary, but it is not intent. A company can match every field in your ICP and have no active reason to change. When every matching account receives the same priority, sellers absorb the cost through manual research and low-relevance outreach.
Signal-led prospecting adds a timing layer. It asks what changed, whether that change relates to the problem you solve, and how strong the supporting evidence is.
Separate fit, timing, and confidence
Useful prioritization does not collapse every input into a mysterious score. Keep the core questions visible.
- Fit: Does the account resemble customers you can serve well?
- Timing: Has something happened that could create urgency or budget?
- Confidence: Is the signal current, attributable, and supported by more than one weak clue?
- Action: What should a seller do differently because of this evidence?
The goal is a better decision, not more data
A signal program succeeds when a seller can review an account, understand the reason for priority, inspect the source, and decide whether to act. More feeds and alerts do not help if they create another research queue.
Start with one market, a small set of meaningful triggers, and a weekly review. Expand only after the team can explain how the evidence changed its behavior.
